Community Health Promotion (Public Health Workforce Development Micro-credential)
Time limit: 365 days
Full course description
While individuals need basic health information to navigate the health care system and to promote their own health, populations need environments that support their overall health and well-being: environments that are health promoting. Through recorded lectures, readings, assignments and discussions students will explore various approaches to community-based health promotion. We will explore how community-based health promotion contributes to efforts to promote social justice and to health equity. We will also examine how approaches to partnering with community members and community organizations increase opportunities for health. Students will learn about a range of health promotion efforts and initiatives that aim to increase community capacity and contribute to healthy social and built environments that facilitate health for all. Students will have opportunities to consider how they as public health professionals may contribute to creating policies, practices and programs that promote the public’s health.
