Suicide remains a significant public health concern across all age groups and clinical settings, and healthcare professionals are uniquely positioned to identify individuals at risk and intervene effectively. This continuing medical education (CME) activity is designed to enhance clinicians’ knowledge, competence, and confidence in the early detection, assessment, intervention, and prevention of suicidal behavior.
The course will review evidence-based risk factors and warning signs for suicide, including demographic, psychosocial, medical, and psychiatric contributors. Participants will learn practical screening and assessment strategies to identify patients at elevated risk. The activity will also address immediate intervention strategies, safety planning, appropriate documentation, and referral pathways, as well as legal and ethical considerations relevant to suicide prevention. Participants who complete this course are eligible to receive two AMA PRA Category 1 credits TM or AOA Category 1-A credits. This course fulfills the Nevada requirement for two hours in Suicide Detection, Intervention, and Prevention.
