The seminar in practicum instruction is designed to train first time practicum instructors with the skills and knowledge required to effectively meet the range of educational responsibilities in their role as supervisor/instructor to graduate interns of social work. Emphasis will be placed on the process of practicum instruction as well as on the goals and tasks. The seminar provides a forum for the consideration of the special issues of supervision in the context of graduate education. Awareness of the power differentials existing within the student-practicum instructor relationship, teaching for best practice in the arena of agency specific services and creating an environment for adult learning require a unique set of skills that this seminar will address.
